Hello everyone! Happy one day after Meme Friday!
First of all, for those of you who are wondering why I am posting on a Saturday instead of a Friday, this is because my 3 nephews (aged 13, 8, and 2) and my niece (aged 6) ALL spent the night yesterday. Although I'm alive and have no broken bones or scars, I was unfortunately not able to post anything last night. And since I can't afford to push this back a week, I have decided to post this tonight, on Meme Saturday
For tonight's meme, I have presented to you:
air30002's Total Drama Island Review!
This is my last review of the Total Drama season series, and I must say, that it has been quite a fun series. And don't worry, I will cover the future seasons as well as "The Ridonculous Race" when or if they come out. But for now, I am going back to my Top 10's and discussions, so be prepared.
Alright, let's get started!
1. Characters
Ezekiel - Had Total Drama island had been Ezekiel's only season of play, I think that many people would not like him. he didn't try much in the challenges, he was very sexist, and he never seemed to care about anything. His potential was also dreadfully low, so that was pretty obvious that he was eliminated first, if you ask me.
Eva - I have to be completely honest here: I like Eva. She is a very strong contestant who has a lot of potential, especially in physical play. But she had a very bad temper, and that is stopping her from being a huge threat in the series. I would like to see her return as an antagonist, that would be cool.
Noah - Let's be honest: The majority of us did not begin to like Noah until Season 3. That was his glorious season. However, it was a much different story in Season 1. He was lazy. And by lazy, I mean, he didn't really care about anything. He didn't try to play the game and cost his team the dodgeball challenge (indirectly). I didn't like Noah here much at all.
Justin - I can't decide on Season 1 Justin. On one side, he was nice at the start. On the other hand, his character was similar to B a little bit. while he tried to win the challenges, he never talked, and didn't have many good friends, either. I'm glad he didn't go far, because he was a major bore this season.
Katie - Overall, Katie is just forgettable. Many people have talked about her coming back by herself and getting a decent plot line. I agree with that. She did not have much of an impact, and since this was her only season, I can't see much to truly like about her.
Tyler - I'm going to guess here and say that Tyler was the first real comic relief. Tyler is a very likable character, and he still is today. I don't know what happened in TDI, though. He had a lot more potential, and he looked terribly weak during the "Phobia Factor" challenge. Glad we got to see him in the future, though.
Izzy - Ok, we all knew that Izzy was going to end up as one of our favorites Her personality is awesome, she is funny, hilarious, very nice, and actually made a bit of an impact on the show. And not only that, she actually ended up returning! Once the season was over with, she finished 7th, had a boyfriend (Owen), and a lot of friends. I hope we see more of her craziness again.
Cody - Cody was very likable in Season 1. He was a lot more of a ladies man this season, and he could be distracting at times. But that does not matter now, though. He was mauled by a bear at the end of the season, and I have to say, I felt very bad for him there. And I still do. Happy that he got another chance.
Beth - Unlike her Season 2 breakthrough, she was not that resourceful in Season 1. She was manipulated quite a bit by Heather during the season, and was forced to basically be her slave for the majority of the season. She finally stood up to her right before her elimination, and I'm proud that she did that to Heather. By "If You Can't Take the Heat", she was completely against her as well, giving her some likability.
Sadie - A lot like Katie (shocker, right?), she is very forgettable and average. She had no true main plot, and should've left the show much earlier in the end.
Courtney - If you look at an overview of every Total Drama season, this is probably her best season to date While she went a bit out of line and was controversial in future seasons, she was pretty cool in Season 1. She worked as hard as she could to try and win at most points, she wasn't made into a Mary Sue, and she also had many interesting plot lines to go with it. She went carefree in "Basic Straining" and even though she got eliminated unfairly, I liked seeing her that way. It's too bad she's not like that anymore
Harold - After a bit of rewatching, I came to the conclusion that I am a fan of Harold and his "mad skills". Even though he seemed weak at the start of the season, he proved to be quite a contender, winning the first 2 challenges for the Killer Bass. After that, however, he mostly became a victim of pointless bullying. Too bad he couldn't have made a physical stand, besides getting Courtney eliminated (should've made Duncan get eliminated ).
Trent - Oh, Trent. You can't catch a break. Many fans were supporting you at the merge, and wanted to see either you or Gwen be the winner of Season 1. You got a girlfriend, you were friends with many of the contestants, and you also tried pretty hard. Sadly, Trent got victimized by Heather, and was eliminated in a sad way. But overall, at least he got a happy ending during the finale episode.
Bridgette - Bridgette was definitely one of my favorite contestants at the end of Total Drama Island. Her elimination was very suspicious, and I feel that they eliminated her too early, but that doesn't change my opinion on her. She is a fantastic character, with many allies. She seemed to get along with a lot of people, and also had an interesting relationship with Geoff, which I enjoyed. Why do you keep screwing her over, writers?!
Lindsay - Finally, we get to Lindsay! I love Lindsay, a lot, as most of you know. She was comic relief, but she was also in the same alliance plot line as Beth was. She fell for every one of Heather's schemes, and sadly, was not able to understand the other people warning her. She finally snapped when she was eliminated, cussing out and flicking off Heather. Very enjoyable, if you ask me.
DJ - This is literally the only season where I like DJ. He was strong, he was friendly, he was NOT a total mamas boy out of virtually nowhere, he even stepped up in earlier challenges as well. While I was sad when he got eliminated, I also feel that he left at the right time as well. Good game, DJ!
Geoff - In all honesty, I wanted to see Geoff be a potential finalist/winner of this season. He got along with everyone, he was cool about everything, he was also smooth and considerate, despite his personality being a party dude. There isn't much wrong with him in Total Drama Island. And I hope he gets another shot to pull off a victory!
LeShawna - LeShawna was my pick to win this season. To this day, she is one of my favorite contestants ever on the show. She won multiple challenges before and after the merge, she had a lot of allies (Gwen, Bridgette, Trent), and she also seemed to have that "kick butt attitude" that she is great at. Of course, her elimination was bull crap I know she could win a season at some point.
Duncan - Are you guys ready for the shock of the century?
I like Duncan in Total Drama Island.
I know, right? If you ask me, this is his only good season. Some of his strategies were bold (Dodgeball challenge), he was smart to form alliances after the merge, and he never really lied or was a douche at any point, either. I think he went home at the right time as well, which made it even more sweet.
Heather - The original villain. The queen of mean. It's Heather! Obviously, while first watching this show, I didn't understand her villainous ways, and I didn't like them either. Today, I respect that, but I will admit that some of her schemes went a bit too far. Reading Gwen's diary, kissing Trent, and threatening campers just went too far for me. Her karma was great, and her downfall was also built up well.
Gwen - Gwen was, without a doubt, the best competitor of season 1. I understand how she still has the most fans, even to this day after everything that she has gone through. She won the most challenges, she was the leader of the Screaming Gophers, she was voted the best player in TDI, and got along with virtually everyone (except Heather, but you all understand). The only thing I would've changed about TDI would be having either Gwen or LeShawna winning instead, but based on her skills this season, and her great story, I probably would've gone with Gwen.
Owen - Like I said before, I prefer Gwen winning over Owen as she deserved it. But that doesn't mean I don't like Owen. Similar to Gwen, he is a friendly camper, and he is also pretty hilarious himself. He didn't come to win, but to make new friends and enjoy it all. And that is what makes him winning so cool. Most of the fans liked him, and so did the cast. He is loyal to his girlfriend, Izzy, and had many great friends.

3. Notable Events:
Heather reading Gwen's diary - Just stupid and rude. Glad Gwen got revenge. "Sweet dreams, everyone."
Lindsay and Heather - A fantastic plot line that was fun to watch, and had a shocking and near perfect conclusion.
Gwen beating up the Psycho Killer - Amazing. One word. Just simply amazing.
Playa De Losers - I liked the idea of adding this to the show. It gave the other contestants more deserved screentime, and a chance to be seen again.
Heather's Karma - She deserved it, and it was built up great. Perfect ending to the episode!
